GroceriEz – Smart Grocery Assistant
About the Project GroceriEz is an AI-powered grocery assistant designed to help users shop smart, reduce waste, and eat healthier. The app predicts ingredient lifetimes, suggests meal plans, and optimizes grocery shopping based on budget, sustainability, and dietary preferences.
Key Features • 🕰️ Predict Food Lifetimes – Plan meals based on what might go bad first. • 💰 Budget-Friendly Recipes – Maximize meals using minimal ingredients and cost. • 🍏 Smart Substitutions – Suggest healthier or available alternatives. • 🍽️ Recipe Pairing – Enhance flavors with ingredient pairing recommendations. • 📑 Label Scanner – Provide dietary insights (vegan, allergens, preservatives, keto, etc.).
Inspiration As an international student, managing grocery shopping, balancing expenses, and adapting to new foods and cooking habits can be overwhelming. GroceriEz was built to: ✓ Make smart meal planning effortless. ✓ Help users reduce food waste with better preservation and planning. ✓ Assist in budget-friendly grocery shopping without compromising nutrition.
Tech Stack & Development Process
Designed a prototype in Figma to visualize the user experience. Built the backend using Llama for AI-powered ingredient recognition and meal generation. Developed a minimalist grocery list builder with quantity specifications and budget constraints. Integrated MongoDB for maintaining data consistency and storing AI responses. Created a recipe generator that suggests meals based on available ingredients. Challenges & Learnings • React Native Learning Curve – As beginners, integrating frontend and backend smoothly was challenging. • Efficient AI Processing – Optimizing Llama’s responses to provide relevant recipes. • Balancing Features & Simplicity – Ensuring the app remains easy to use while offering powerful insights.
