Inspiration
As a passionate home cook who loves experimenting, I constantly tweak recipes until they're perfect. Friends kept asking for my creations—but sharing was harder than it should be. I also found myself asking: Do I have the right ingredients? Where's that baking steel? PantryButler was born to answer those questions. It transforms kitchen chaos into clarity with smart grocery lists, ingredient-aware recipe suggestions, and step-by-step timers that guarantee perfectly cooked dishes every time.
What it does
PantryButler is a powerful, multi-tenant web app that unifies your recipes and kitchen inventory in one beautiful space. It instantly shows what you can cook with ingredients you already own, helps you schedule weekly meals, and auto-generates a smart grocery list for everything missing. Recipes convert seamlessly to your preferred units—volume, metric, ratio, or baker's percentage—and scale to any serving size with zero math. Cooking has never been this effortless.
How we built it
PantryButler was built 100% using MeDo. I started with a detailed feature list and rigorous testing protocol, then collaborated with MeDo's LLM through iterative refinement. The result? 94 evolving versions of the main app and 50 alternate attempts—each one bringing me closer to a polished, production-ready tool.
Challenges we ran into
Every great build has learning moments. Early on, Supabase updates occasionally broke frontend functionality. Instead of slowing down, I strengthened my testing protocol to proactively catch Supabase errors before they reached users. That fix turned a frustration into a bulletproof development habit—and a more stable app.
Accomplishments we're proud of
In just four days, PantryButler went from a rough idea to a fully functioning, feature-complete app. Every single frontend feature works 100%. Early users love knowing exactly what they can make with ingredients already in their pantry—and the positive feedback has been incredible fuel to keep building.
What we learned
This journey taught me the power of structured iteration. By pairing a clear testing protocol with MeDo's generative capabilities, I could move faster without breaking core functionality. I also learned that clear communication with AI tools—treating them like a collaborative partner—unlocks features I wouldn't have built alone. Most importantly, I saw firsthand how a focused solo developer can ship a full-stack app in days, not months.
What's next for PantryButler
Native iOS and Android apps are coming soon. So is multi-language support, bulk recipe and ingredient imports, and a community-driven favorites page where home cooks can share their best creations. PantryButler is just getting started.
