Grocer-E

Inspiration

My grandmother in Germany, who needs to send letters to nearby neighbors to ensure food is brought to her house.

What it does

This is an application that would be used to connect people in a neighborhood, to easily organize the buying of food for people who may not be able to leave their houses.

How we built it

We built this entirely with Java, in eclipse.

Challenges I ran into

We did not know how to host a server or put this application online, so it cannot currently connect multiple users.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

48 hours ago none of us knew anything more than java, but with a lot of effort and many youtube videos we were able to create large and compelx GUIs that simulate an actual application.

What we learned

Tons of stuff about Java Swing, GUIs, along with much about APIs from the tutorials.

What's next for Grocer-E

With this client done, we could use an online database to save the information we implement in the app, so that it does not restart every time you run. We can also enable multiple people to access the app from the internet, which would basically fulfill the projects purpose. With a more in-depth Payment tab, we may be able to put this to use at some point.
