Inspiration
Our youth worldwide are going through a mental health crisis. One in seven 10-19 year olds globally have some form of mental disorder. It is widely established that an essential way to do this is by building resilience in our youth.
Gritty's goal is to build mental resilience in our youth (and adults) with humor and fun through stories.
What it does
Gritty is a family game that helps families/friends of 3+ players go through different life scenarios and discuss how to handle them. To build resilience, it's important to experience adverse situations and figure out ways to bounce back. Gritty helps expose players to those situations through stories. Players can then come up with ways to address those situations thereby building up the "resilience" muscle.
How we built it
Gritty was vibe-coded using Bolt entirely. Extensive use was made of prompt engineering to create context-appropriate jokes and stories within the app. Figma was used for some of the design aspects.
Challenges we ran into
Getting the user experience just right took a while.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting the jokes and stories just right with the right set of guard rails to enjoy Gritty as a wholesome, family game.
What we learned
We were amazed at the speed at which we could build Gritty using Bolt. We did underestimate the amount of time it took to do the final fine-tuning. We learned a lot about debugging and design optimization using Bolt in the process.
On the user side, we were thrilled to see the reaction Gritty had. We tested this on 3 focus groups. The response was great with all of them saying they felt more resilient after playing the game. The game also seems to have the right balance of fun and learning.
What's next for Gritty
We want to launch it broadly and get tens of thousands of families to start using Gritty. We can't wait to start getting feedback on how it's impacted people's lives.
