Inspiration
Small businesses and organizations consistently struggle with inefficient inventory management. Products are often recorded too late or too early, which can waste storage space and lead to dissatisfied customers. I wanted to build a tool that helps eliminate most of the guesswork with inventory management by predicting stockout times and recommending reorder timing automatically.
What it does
This is a full-stack web application that helps users: -Track inventory in real time -Monitor daily sales velocity -Predict when items will run out -Flag low and critical stock levels -Suggest optimal reorder timing -Place restock orders directly from the dashboard
How I built it
I built this using:
- Flask for the backend REST API
- SQLite for data storage
- React.js for the frontend interface
- Chart.js for data visualization
Challenges I ran into
One major challenge was converting my initial Flask prototype into a full React application. This required restructuring my API responses and managing asynchronous data fetching.
Another challenge I had was with designing the logic behind the inventory system. I wanted to make sure that the program could handle edgecases and have somewhat realistic thresholds for restocking items.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud that I was able to put something like this together in a short timeframe.
What I learned
- Throughout this hackathon, I learned how to connect a React frontend to a Flask backend
- How to design my own APIs with Flask
- State management in React
- Debugging web applications.
What's next for Grimoire Shop Inventory
I would like to be able to add support for multiple connections, which would require that I migrate over to MySQL or a similar system
