Inspiration
After losing someone, families are suddenly expected to handle dozens of urgent administrative and legal tasks while grieving. Most people don’t know where to begin. Existing solutions are fragmented, expensive, or emotionally cold. We wanted to build something humane — a system that guides people through loss step by step.
What it does
GriefGuide is an AI-powered estate companion that helps families navigate everything that happens after a death. Users complete a gentle, conversational onboarding process, and GriefGuide generates a personalized checklist based on their situation, country, dependents, property, and legal needs. Each task includes its own AI assistant with full context awareness, allowing users to ask questions specific to that task instead of interacting with a generic chatbot. The platform also generates ready-to-send documents, such as:
- Obituaries
- Bank notification letters
- Employer notifications
- Probate-related paperwork.
How we built it
We built GriefGuide entirely with MeDo. The system combines:
- Conversational onboarding
- Dynamic checklist generation
- Context-aware AI task assistants
- AI document drafting workflows We focused heavily on user experience, making the interface feel supportive and calm instead of bureaucratic.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was structuring highly sensitive workflows in a way that felt emotionally supportive without becoming overwhelming. We also had to balance simplicity with legal and logistical complexity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building an emotionally intelligent experience around a topic most products ignore
- Creating task-specific AI assistants with contextual understanding
- Generating personalized post-loss workflows dynamically
- Delivering real-world practical value, not just a demo concept
- Building the entire product rapidly with MeDo. ## What we learned We learned that AI becomes far more impactful when paired with emotionally difficult real-world moments. We also learned how important UX tone and clarity are when designing for vulnerable users. Small wording decisions dramatically changed how supportive the product felt. One of our biggest learnings was how effectively MeDo accelerated development. Complex workflows that would normally take days to prototype could be designed, refined, and deployed through fast iterative prompting.
