Inspiration
Energy markets are still centralized and inefficient, and price-only matching hides climate impact. We wanted a P2P market where buyers see both cost and carbon, and why a seller was picked.
What it does
Gridly matches energy buyers with sellers using an explainable, deterministic score (carbon-aware: 40% carbon, 30% price, 30% quantity fit). It shows estimated avoided emissions across three scenarios, and a smart-contract registry is designed to record accepted trades.
How we built it
React + TypeScript + Vite on Vercel, FastAPI + PostgreSQL on Render, a Solidity registry contract with Hardhat, and labelled demo carbon-factor fixtures.
Challenges we ran into
No MetaMask account was available, so the public demo doesn't connect a wallet. We also had to prevent overselling and keep carbon factors on comparable bases.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A live demo with a working API, a reproducible matcher that explains its results, and honest carbon reporting that labels estimates and shows no comparison when bases don't match.
What we learned
Explainability and clear units matter as much as optimization, and a blockchain record proves what was submitted, not physical delivery.
What's next for Gridly : P2P Energy Trading
Connect a wallet and deploy to a public testnet, use live carbon data, and add renewable certificate tracking and microgrid pilots.
