Inspiration

The Spark: A Personal Realization Like many city dwellers, I often relied on ride-hailing or personal vehicles to get from one place to another. But during the pandemic lockdowns, I started cycling and walking more, and noticed two things:

My travel was healthier and cheaper.

The air was visibly cleaner.

That period made me wonder: ** Why don’t more people choose eco-friendly travel, even when it’s better for everyone? **

The answer was clear — convenience always wins. There was no smart, simple tool that showed greener routes without compromising on efficiency or comfort.

What it does

That’s when the idea of GreenTrip was born — a smart web app that doesn’t just show the fastest or cheapest route, but also the greenest one. It empowers users with:

AI-based eco-routing, factoring in CO₂ emissions.

Gamified rewards (GreenPoints) for sustainable travel.

A transparent comparison of time, cost, and carbon across travel options.

My mission: Make sustainability a default, rewarding choice — not an afterthought.

How we built it

Urban commuters have access to multiple travel modes — ride-hailing, metro, bikes, scooters, walking — but they lack:

Awareness of the environmental impact of each trip.

A platform that combines all travel modes in a single route.

A system that rewards them for making sustainable choices.

People want to reduce their footprint. But the tools just weren’t there.

Challenges we ran into

  1. 🌐 Real-Time Data Integration
  2. 🔒 Limited Access to Bolt APIs
  3. ⚖️ Balancing Speed, Cost, and Sustainability
  4. 🎯 CO₂ Emission Estimation

Accomplishments that we're proud of

GreenTrip is more than an app — it’s a movement. A step toward greener cities, conscious commuting, and empowered citizens.

And it all started with a simple question: ** “What if we could make every trip a little greener?” **

What we learned

How Machine Learning Can Personalize Route Planning for Environmental Goals.

How difficult — and important — it is to access real-time data from ride-sharing and transit providers.

That UX matters: users only choose greener options if the experience is seamless.
