Inspiration

In a world driven by convenience, everyday choices often come at an environmental cost—single-use plastics, fast fashion, and unsustainable products quietly harm our planet. Many people want to make greener choices but feel overwhelmed by where to start or struggle to stay consistent.

GreenSwap was born from the idea that sustainability should be simple and actionable. By providing easy, eco-friendly alternatives for everyday items and gentle reminders to integrate them into daily life, GreenSwap empowers individuals to make conscious choices effortlessly.

What it does

GreenSwap is a web app that helps you effortlessly transition to a more sustainable lifestyle. It suggests eco-friendly alternatives for everyday non-sustainable items—whether it’s swapping plastic bottles for reusable ones or choosing biodegradable packaging.

But we don’t stop at suggestions! GreenSwap also keeps you accountable with smart reminders, ensuring you take action and make sustainability a habit.

We make it easier to start making mindful choices today—one GreenSwap at a time!

How we built it

Built with Oracle APEX builder and Oracle Database. The reminders are triggered with Twilio services.

Challenges we ran into

Oracle APEX builder UI was not intuitive. It has so many configuration in page editor and designer that we had to figure out. Twilio has a lot of verification process to upgrade the account to use it in application and also needs US Toll verification process that take a 3-5 business days that we found out in the last week of hackathon.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are happy to provide an interactive web app that gets the curiosity triggered on water and carbon footprint of various everyday items with sustainable products. The leaderboard and the reminders creates an actionable guide to stick to sustainable habits.

What we learned

We learnt the no-code workspace of Oracle Apex and UI builder. Twilio integration with Oracle Apex

What's next for GreenSwap

We want to provide personalized recommendation based on user's interest and also suggest products that can be purchased online to make it as a part of their lifestyle. We want to use GenAI to generate images instead of using images from database. We will also provide email reminders as well.
