Inspiration
Humans have been negatively impacting the environment in a number of ways. One of the primary causes is the release of greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere as a result of burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas. Deforestation, caused by the clearing of forests for agriculture, urbanization, and commercial use, has also led to the loss of vital habitats for many species, and contributed to the release of large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Pollution from industrial waste and toxic chemicals, as well as from plastic waste that ends up in the ocean, is also having devastating effects on wildlife and the health of our planet's ecosystems. These actions, along with many others, demonstrate how human activity is contributing to the rapid degradation of the environment. This pressing problem made me ponder on ways in which I could try to make an impact on humans to not only save life on land but also in water.
What it does
GreensVille is basically a chrome extension that helps you make aware of environmental hazards and solutions in general. It has the following features - 1) Get a new news about the pressing environmental issues. 2) Know one more plant and animal species which have been endangered! 3) In general get an idea about the weather in your location along with a measurement of the Air Quality Index 4) Our greensVille genie predicts the most cool combination of must need things and precautions that you should follow given the weather..
How I built it
Initially started with the research phase to find out whether a similar product exists in the market but couldn't find one so went ahead and started thinking of adding various features one by one.
Challenges we ran into
This was my first time building an extension, since I'm a native web developer, but this platform provided by Nor Cal Spring hacks really had me excited and hence I thought of going out of my way and exploring something new.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm honestly proud of the fact that I have completed the project and it turned out pretty well, the way I had imagined, and obviously got a lot to learn on the way!
What I learned
1) Building a chrome extension 2) Project and Time Management 3) Utilization of theme
