Inspiration:
The inspiration behind GreenSteps stemmed from our collective desire to contribute to environmental sustainability in our daily lives. We recognized the importance of small, actionable steps towards a greener lifestyle and sought to create a tool that could empower individuals to make meaningful changes.
What We Learned:
Throughout the development process, we learned about the various facets of sustainable living, from energy conservation to waste reduction. We also gained insights into user behavior and engagement strategies, discovering the importance of intuitive design and community-building features.
How We Built Our Project:
GreenSteps was built using a combination of frontend and backend technologies. For the frontend, we utilized HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with frameworks like React.js for dynamic interactivity. On the backend, we implemented Node.js and Express.js for server-side logic and MongoDB for data storage. Additionally, we integrated mapping functionalities using the Google Maps API for the recycling locator feature.
Challenges Faced:
One of the main challenges we faced was sourcing accurate and up-to-date information for the recycling locator feature. We had to overcome this by leveraging crowdsourced data and collaborating with local waste management authorities. Additionally, ensuring a seamless user experience across different devices and screen sizes required thorough testing and optimization.
