Inspiration
We were going outside for lunch on the first day of the hackathon, still with no idea for a hack. We were thinking, "where shall we eat our lunch?" and then inspiration struck: we should make an app to find places to eat your lunch!
What it does
Our aim is to get more people outside, enjoying the planet they live in. Instead of eating your lunch at your desk, we want you to explore and find somewhere beautiful to eat your lunch! Our web app allows you to upload recommendations for places, such as a park, and other people can rate this lunch spot.
How we built it
The back-end is written in Node.js with an Express server. We used the Mapbox API for the maps, and passport for authentication. The front-end is written using HTML and Sass, with Bootstrap components for the majority of the UI.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a lot of bugs, but nothing we couldn't find the solution to!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
At the start of this project, Arnas knew only basic HTML and CSS. Throughout the project, he has learnt how to use Express, EJS, Mapbox, JSON, databases, as well as dramatically increasing his knowledge of JavaScript!
What's next for GreenSpot
It would be great to host this somewhere so people can actually share their favourite lunch spots!
Domain.com
We bought a domain, hack-pla.net where we can showcase our hacks!
