Inspiration
- As trees grow, they help stop climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air, storing carbon in the trees and soil and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere.
- Humans are very much interested in planting but after few days we lose our interest and do not care for the plants.
- Farmers (or planters) face the issue of late detection of diseases spreading on their crops.
- Unawareness among local communities about job opportunities which promote sustainabile development. This all made us inspire and work on this project to bring a change.
What it does
It’s an app which encourages people to plant more trees. It includes features such as:

- Plant Disease Detection using Internet of Things(IoT) and Machine Learning(ML)
- Buy/Sell
1. Plant a Tree: a) Donate Money for a plant - Included to address the worries of those who wish to plant more trees but are unable to due to various constraints like time or space. We also plan to include a feature through which the donor is connected to the person who would be receiving the free plant, which in turn helps to keep a rapport between both the parties.
b) Get a Plant - In this we give away seedlings absolutely free for the registered users. The only prerequisite is that they must take good care of what they are provided with, which includes updating the database on their plant’s growth. Hence, we make use of machine learning techniques to assess the photos which ultimately decides on whether a user is eligible to receive free seedlings/plants in the near future. We have also enabled a feature through which a user can share their plant’s progress on social media.
2. Plant Disease Detection using Internet of Things(IoT) and Machine Learning(ML): Regular monitoring of plants ensures proper growth and thereby, makes sure that the yield is of good quality. With the help of the new age technologies, this process can be automated which in turn saves time and effort. Here, machine learning is used to detect leaf diseases by matching the image with the most suitable option. We have also provided the necessary details with which people can get started on IoT kits, that help with the early detection of disease and pest symptoms, which in turn would increase the chances of plant survival.
3. Buy/Sell: This feature is introduced to encourage people to plant more and as a result, get an additional income too. This also reduces post harvest losses due to excess of product.
How we built it
UI/UX designing(figma), Flutter for app dev, Machine Learning(Python),IOT, Dart, Firebase, APIs.
Challenges we ran into
- Had to research on the role of ML and IoT in plant disease detection.
- Also had to check on how to build a connection between donor of the plant and the plant-cultivator about the progress of plant growth.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We have created a platform to help people to plant trees and and make sure that they do not lose interest in them.
- Here we help in early detection of plant growth limiting disease causing agents thereby conforming proper growth of crops.
- We are creating employment opportunities through this app in form of delivery works of providing plants to people.
What we learned

What's next for SigNature
Aim to increase trees and reduce co2 at a certain level by 2024. After 5 years, our business is expected to reach international level.
