Inspiration
We know that currently, waste accumulation is on an all time high and the efforts to control it are quite less. So in order to bring about a change in our society, we have to devise ways to control the wastes generated and reusability of materials. A self thought business model for waste management incorporating the key aspects of "circular economy". Circular economy suggests to minimize waste generation and focusses on reuse of resources as much as possible. Our business model called Greenside focusses on the cardboard delivery packaging of online retail websites such as amazon, flipkart, myntra etc.
What it does
Millions of people around the world order different items from such e-commerce platforms but there is not any check on the accumulation packaging wastes. We plan to control this by acting as the middlemen between the online websites and the customers. In exchange for the packaging, we will provide exclusive points which can be redeemed by the customers to avail different offers/discounts from the online platform. This packaging waste will we returned to the company by us. The carboard packages can thus be reused by the e-commerce companies. This will reduce the waste accumulation to a great extent as well as conserve resources. In case of any damage to the carboards, they can be recycled to make fresh packaging. Also, this will help the e-commerce platforms greatly in two major ways. First, their packaging costs would be cut to a large extent. Secondly, the point based reward system would force the customers to use their platform for shopping as they will get better discount offers. This will increase their publicity and outreach too.
How we built it
Currently, we have devised a website for our business project highlighting the key features that will be available to the users using HTML and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges due to covid-19. The major reason not being able to communicate with each other face to face while designing our hack. Online platform is great, but face to face live hackathon would have been much better for the team. Hands on experience and interacting with other hackers could have been very helpful too.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to present our business model website and that we are able to contribute to environment protection in any way possible.
What we learned
We learnt a great deal by participating in this hackathon. It taught us teamwork ( how can we efficiently work in a team ), presentation skills ( how we can effectively present our ideas to the public ).
What's next for Greenside
Greenside is not a one time affair. It is a revolution in which we will try to incorporate as many people as possible and make this business model into a business startup, thus helping the environment through our small steps.
