Inspiration
We all want to help contribute to combat climate change but don't know where to start. That's why our team thought of GreenShire, a way to understand your impact on the climate & contribute in your own way to fighting climate change.
What it does
Our job is to help you calculate your carbon footprint based on various day-to-day activities, and also to provide you with ways to neutralise your footprint & even help others reduce their carbon production
How we built it
We used various technologies like HTML, CSS, JS, React & others for designing the front-end part of our website. Along with that, we used node.js & express.js for designing the back end-part. For fetching the AQI data, we used an API from climatiq.io
Challenges we ran into
There were several challenges that we ran into, but ultimately we were able to overcome all of them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're extremely proud of the fact that we are doing our part in making our Earth a safer planet for future generations. Secondly, we're happy about working with a new team in this hackathon. We understood each other's strengths & weaknesses, and we were able to build a successful working website within 2 days which is not a small feat.
What we learned
We learnt that participating in hackathons is one of, if not the best way to remember & strengthen your understanding of web development. We also learnt that it is useful to know at least the basics of the technologies that your teammates are using so that it becomes easier to integrate your team-mate's code whenever they update it. I especially learnt a lot about how to manage a team in a hackathon, so that each person does their assigned work without much disturbance to the others. So, I'm happy to have participated in this hackathon😄
What's next for GreenShire
We would like to integrate AI/ML tech into our website, to allow people to search for even more day-to-day activities that help them calculate their carbon footprint. Also, we are planning to create a chatbot later on, that would help our users interact with our website in a seamless manner.
