Inspiration

Singapore is a leading country when it comes to technology. However, in terms of going green to save the environment, we are much behind other countries such as Taiwan. Since our technology advancement was so far ahead, the inspiration come across our team to combine the use of technology to create a mobile application, GreenSG, to save the environment by raising awareness to the community on the importance of preserving the natural environment and come up with challenges the users can adopt to make a change to the natural environment in Singapore

What it does

GreenSG is an application that allows the user to propose steps the NEA or other organizations can take to improve the natural environment, give ideas for the community on what they can do to preserve the environment, and share the daily moves they have done to save the environment. Users can also view a list of natural environment challenges and a step-by-step guide to complete the challenges.

How we built it

We will be using the prototype we've created in Figma prototype and create the solution using front-end technologies such as React or Vue and back-end technologies such as FastAPI or NodeJS depending on the preference of the team afterward. We will then test it out by hosting the back-end on AWS and launch the application on Google Play Store.

Challenges we ran into

It is difficult to come up with a mobile application as they have smaller screen sizes and users are easily distracted by their surroundings as well when using the application. We will need user-friendly interfaces that fit the thumb size of the users and also deal with different screen sizes of different mobile phones.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely happy to be able to come out with a solution and produce a prototype in just less than 2 days. We managed to get better at using the Figma prototype and bond much closer as a team.

Component functions using Figma, video recording and uploading skills, color-picking when creating wireframes and linking of wireframes for complete prototype using Figma

What's next for GreenSG

We will continue to add in additional features and natural environment challenges in the future as more suggestion flows in. We will also find partners that are willing to provide more content or APIs for the latest news regarding the natural environment
