🚀 Inspiration

The growing problem of improper waste disposal and the lack of motivation for recycling inspired us to create GreenPoint. Many individuals want to recycle but find it confusing or inconvenient. By integrating gamification, AI, and technology, we aim to make recycling a fun, engaging, and rewarding experience.

♻️ What It Does

GreenPoint is an interactive web-based platform that encourages users to recycle responsibly through AI-powered item classification, reward-based challenges, and community engagement. Key features include:

  • AI-Powered Scanner – Upload images to check if an item is recyclable.
  • Points & Rewards – Earn GreenPoints for recycling and completing challenges.
  • Leaderboard & Achievements – Compete with others and track your impact.
  • Educational Resources – Learn the best recycling practices.
  • Find Recycling Centers – Locate nearby drop-off points.

🛠 How We Built It

We developed GreenPoint using:

  • Frontend: React.js for a smooth and dynamic UI.
  • Backend: Node.js & Express.js for handling requests and authentication.
  • Database: Firebase Firestore for real-time data storage.
  • AI Model: Google ML Kit for object recognition.
  • Google Maps API: To help users find recycling centers easily.

🚧 Challenges We Ran Into
