Inspiration

We were inspired by crowd-based feedback platforms such as Yelp or RateMyProfessor.

What it does

GreenPack Feedback allows customers to post their experiences with the sustainability of a given company's shipping methods. This feedback both helps buyers make better informed decisions and also helps companies gain a better understanding of the consumer's perspective. Our goal would be for companies to take this feedback and use it to develop more sustainable packaging methods with the incentive of lower shipping costs due to fewer materials.

How we built it

GreenPack Feedback is built in the .NET framework and C# using the Model-View-Controller design pattern. Data is stored in a SQLlite database for demonstration purposes.

Challenges we ran into

"Thou shalt never attempt to write thine own .gitignore when working with unfamiliar frameworks." - Unknown.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Technical difficulties with git and .NET dependencies plagued us for much of the hackathon. With that in mind, having a working proof of concept to submit is a victory we're all proud of.

What we learned

Aside from getting to research sustainability in the shipping industry, this project was an opportunity to learn more about the .NET framework, which was unfamiliar to most of our team when we started.

What's next for GreenPack Feedback

  • Allow the user to search for specific products
  • Implement email-based user verification
  • Deploy to custom domain: greenpackfeedback.tech
  • Expand the database to include additional sustainability factors like the manufacturing process and where materials are sourced from
  • Create a 'SustAInabot" to recommend similar companies and products that have better sustainability habits
  • Add a web browser extension for users
