Inspiration
We all know that conserving our resources is important. But why don't people take it more seriously? Thinking about this question lead us to our idea.
It's hard to quantify what our everyday actions have on the environment.
What if we didn't know all of our options for transportation
What it does
GreenNav is a fuel consumption calculator. It helps people around Dallas-Fort Worth find out how much fuel they can save depending on their mode of transportation. While bikes and walking may be the more fuel-efficient way to get around the city, it may not be the safest. That's where GreenNav comes in again, GreenNav automatically notifies users if their walking or biking path may be too dangerous to use.
How we built it
We built this app using React.js. Most of our calculations were done client side.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into problems with using Google Maps in React.JS. This framework is different from using regular javascript which makes learning React difficult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of integrating State Farm's Drive Safe & Save rewards and SouthWest's information on SouthWest which was named one of Four Most Fuel Efficient Airlines for Domestic airlines by the International Council on Clean Transportation in 2015.
What we learned
We learned about React Native and git!
What's next for GreenNav
We want to find more ways to commute and more ways of helping get people more involved in
