Inspiration

Improper waste disposal is a common issue in many communities, leading to pollution, health risks, and environmental degradation. Despite growing awareness about sustainability, many people lack an easy way to report waste-related problems or find nearby recycling facilities. Green Map was inspired by the idea of empowering citizens to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean through a simple, community-driven digital platform.

What it does

Green Map enables users to report waste hotspots such as overflowing garbage bins, illegal dumping locations, and unattended waste. These reports are displayed on an interactive map, allowing residents and local organizations to identify areas that require attention. The platform also helps users locate nearby recycling centers and stay updated on clean-up drives and environmental initiatives. By combining reporting, mapping, and sustainability resources in one place, Green Map encourages collective responsibility and promotes cleaner communities.

How we built it

The platform was developed as a web application with an interactive map interface that allows users to submit and visualize waste reports in real time. A database stores report information, including location, description, and status. Mapping APIs are used to display waste hotspots and recycling centers, while the frontend provides an intuitive and responsive user experience across devices.

Challenges we ran into

• Designing an intuitive interface that is easy for users of all ages.

• Planning a scalable architecture for future features such as report verification and notifications. ## What we learned Throughout the project, we gained hands-on experience with interactive mapping technologies, frontend-backend integration, database management, and responsive web development. We also learned the importance of user-centered design and how technology can encourage community participation in solving environmental challenges. ## What's next for Green Map Future improvements include:
