Inspiration

As a team, we share the goal of taking initiative against climate change, but we found it difficult to take steps consistently towards the cause. Thus, we built this program to help not just ourselves, but also our users, to remind and encourage them to take action every day by simplifying the process of creating goals and marking them off.

What it does

Gives users daily eco-habits to do, along with instructions and how much CO2 each action removes. After finishing a task, the user can simply check it off. The amount of CO2 the user has eliminated, the current streak, and the points are displayed on the dashboard, keeping the user engaged. The app also gives a daily mystery challenge, which can be done for extra points. There are also badges for different categories, such as number of tasks done, streak length, and amount of CO2 taken away, in different levels. The leaderboard allows the user to see how their efforts compare to other users, and the forest visualizes the KGs of CO2 emissions prevented.

How we built it

We built it using a mixture of manual coding and AI. The AI was used to brainstorm ideas, to create symbols and to polish off the look of our website, and to do long, repetitive tasks such as copying click actions. We did the functionality programming by ourselves, splitting up the tasks among us. Simon did the programming for the forest, Kyuhyun did the leaderboard and the settings, Moiz did the trophies, and Abhinav did the tasks.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into multiple challenges along the way, but mainly it was adapting to the environment. We were all mains in python, although we did know HTML, so we used our coding model, assisted by tutorials and AI, to create a website that was much easier to do in HTML.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’ve created a website with a user-friendly and functional interface, and implemented the leaderboard and streak system.

What we learned

We learned that there are many different coding languages, and they all have different purposes. Something that focuses on a thing that we all know well, like python, could be useful, but it would be much harder as python is not well equipped for website building. Instead, we used HTML, which we knew how to do but were less experienced in, and created a much better website than we would have with python.

What's next for GreenLoop

The concept of greenloop, in our opinion, is a very good idea. The next steps are to make it more immersive and fun. Helping our environment seems like a chore for so many people. But if people are honest with greenloop, they can have a fun, competitive experience and real gameplay that will impact our environment in a meaningful way.
