Inspiration
We got inspired by the simple psychological mechanism of the traffic-light.
What it does
It turns on a green light when the electricity is mostly provided by renewable resources, to have a positive environmental impact.
How I built it
We built a 3D model which we turned into a paper prototype to test the ergonomics. Furthermore, we have an app to inform the electricity consumer.
Challenges I ran into
We had to connect from different part of the world across time-spans, it wasn't easy but we managed. Plus, we had to choose the design properly.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud of the simplicity of the idea but the tremendous impact that it could have, considering the contained costs as well.
What I learned
We learned that there isn't still an effective way to incentivize demand responsibility. Moreover, with a survey, we found out that people don't know about how the energy mix works, but they are committed to learning about
What's next for GreenLight - Wait for the green!
We are planning to build a prototype and sell it to top-tier energy supplier. The final goal is to reduce European carbon emissions as well as providing added value to our customers. Indeed, they can save up a lot for the implementation.
