Inspiration

The impetus for GreenLight originated during my time as a medical device sales rep, selling cardiac pacemakers and implantable defibrillators for St. Jude Medical. I was used to a relationship-based sale of our technology, introducing our product to a physician, who was the sole purchasing decision influence for the product. That all changed when the hospital I was working within replaced the physician-decision maker with a committee-based approach known as a value analysis committee. My sales cycle went from 3-4 weeks to 8-9 months to get a product approved and in use for the hospital. After going to business school, I watched this archaic, manual, paper-based evaluation process, shift into widespread use for hospital facilities, with this shift encouraged by the rising concern for cost containment within hospitals. Seeing this inefficient process build more and more in prevalence, I came to the conclusion that software could be used as a medium to drive efficiency and connect all parties, data, documents, and decisions involved in one place. Thus, GreenLight Medical was born.

What it does

GreenLight Medical is an all-in-one cloud-based software to enable online collaboration and collective insight for the review and approval of new medical technology within hospitals.

How I built it

Challenges I ran into

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

In 2016, GreenLight placed 2nd out of 30 competing companies as one of the winners in the RESI Conference Innovation Challenge, hosted by Life Science Nation.

What I learned

What's next for GreenLight Medical

GreenLight Medical is all-in- one cloud-based software to enable online collaboration and collective insight for the review and approval of new medical technology within hospitals. GreenLight streamlines the efficiency of medical technology approvals by offering a secure, collaborative information-exchange portal between medical device manufacturers, med device sales representatives, physicians, and hospital stakeholders. By eliciting coordination among multiple parties in a shared, transparent dashboard, discussions, data, documents, and decision-making can all be found in one place, aligning hospitals and medical device manufacturers on cost, quality, and outcomes for new medical technology purchasing decisions.
