Inspiration

I was inspired by apps like flora and forest, these are productivity apps focused on blocking unnecessary distractions which is different to my concept but their main feature is that after a study session if you don't access anything else but the relevant sites for work you are rewarded with a virtual tree being grown. I applied a similar reward system too my to do list app greenhouse.

What it does

Greenhouse is a to do list app. You create a to do list with tasks you need to complete that day and it’s main feature is growing flowers when users complete tasks. Each task you complete the flower grows more, at five tasks the flower will be fully grown however you can still add and do more tasks. The app provides a sense of instant gratification and a visual reward for completing tasks, helping motivate users.

How we built it

Built as a web app using Json, HTML, CSS

Challenges I ran into

I had much bigger plans for greenhouse, I planned to implement pre planned to-do lists, separate to do list sections with their own flowers and even flowerbeds and decor to display flowers. However as I begin to try to implement the app I realised I had bit off more than I could chew and so I dialed back on those features. I also don't have much experience with coding. Using YouTube and AI as a guide, I was able to create a mock up of the app I was happy with.

What we learned

  • To take into account my own time constraints when planning
  • That coding can take a considerable amount of time

What's next for Greenhouse

  • I want to build upon my coding skills so that I can build upon greenhouse as an app and refine the UI
  • I would also like to add the prementioned features that I wasn't able to add before
