Inspiration
What it does
Greenhouse is a website that allows users to make real impact in their local community, through creating or helping with improvement projects. Submitted events will appear in the event panel, and when an event is selected a side pane will show that presents the user with details about the event (such as the time) and allows them to RSVP for it.
How we built it
We used Java with Bootstrap to operate the back-end data management and JavaScript/TypeScript with React and Vite to create the front end.
Challenges we ran into
Making the front end turned out a log longer of a process than we had time for, so we used codex/gemini/copilot to assist in the front end's completion.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite our shortcomings, we managed to finish this project successfully. This is our first time hosting a website on our PCs. We are proud to have learned how to design a website that links a frontend and backend with Spring boot.
What we learned
AI can be a really powerful tool for front-end development. Sometimes it is smarter to offload the simpler work and focus on system design.
What's next for Greenhouse
-Full Integration with a server to allow for effective storage of community projects. -Allow users to create accounts, allowing users to keep track of what projected they RSVPed for. -Integrate a chatbot that helps users find projects that they're interested in, potentially providing a further boost to the number of users involved in their community.
