Inspiration

The GreenHack~IT Challenge, jointly organized by ArianeGroup and the German-French Academy for the Industry of the Future (GFA), brought together diverse and talented participants to solve real-world industrial challenges. Our team was tasked with optimizing the supply chain of Ariane 6 boosters, a critical component of the European space program.

The Challenge

Design an optimization-based tool to improve efficiency, cost, and sustainability in the Ariane 6 booster supply chain.

Our Solution

We developed an application capable of:

  • Modeling the supply chain with constraints and dependencies.
  • Applying optimization algorithms to minimize costs and delays.
  • Providing insights into bottlenecks and alternative strategies.
  • Delivering a visual and user-friendly interface for decision-making.

Teamwork & Collaboration

A highlight of the event was working with an international team:

  • Henrique Chaves
  • Bastien Dejardin
  • Hanya Elhashemy
  • Karl Rieländer
  • Paweł Morgen

Their dedication and expertise were instrumental in our success. Representing IMT Nord Europe also made the experience special, especially with colleagues Paul Longour and Louison Ribouchon achieving 2nd place 🥈 — a collective achievement we’re proud of.

Challenges we ran into

  • Translating a complex aerospace supply chain into solvable optimization models.
  • Balancing speed and precision under hackathon time pressure.
  • Ensuring our solution was not only theoretical but applicable to real industrial processes.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

  • 🏆 Winning 1st place at the GreenHack~IT Challenge.
  • Building a working optimization prototype in just 4 days.
  • Collaborating effectively with an international and multidisciplinary team.

What we learned

  • The importance of optimization methods in large-scale industrial systems.
  • How to communicate across cultures and disciplines to reach a shared goal.
  • Insights into the aerospace industry’s supply chain challenges.
