Inspiration
Climate change has become a very prevalent issue these days. We thought for our project we could help guide people to resources they could find in their own cities. This way, they can do more to lessen the impact of climate change closer to home.
What it does
We begin on a home page where the user can choose to begin finding resources in their communities. Once they do, they can select to discover recycling centers, fresh food, public transportation, and outdoor parks. When prompted, they enter their city and state; when this location is submitted, we use Gemini to generate user suggestions for the respective category.
How we built it
We used resources from Reflex and Google to complete our project. The team at the Reflex booth helped us with the setup as well as helping us to determine design and stylistic choices. We used Reflex to fully create the website frontend and backend. We also used Google's Gemini API to generate suggestions given specific parameters.
Challenges we ran into
Learning how to integrate AI responses into the project to return information to the user was a challenge. There were also styling and theming issues that arose that we overcame through trial and error.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to successfully complete our application having integrated AI into it.
What we learned
We learned how to do frontend and backend development with a new framework and new services.
What's next for GreenGuide
We may refactor the project code in the future with new knowledge of Reflex we may acquire. We hope that GreenGuide is able to inspire people to get involved in their own ways.
