Inspiration

I've always been very interested in and have enjoyed gardening and it's something I want to do more of. When thinking about the theme of this hackathon, I immediately thought about how I could include my love of gardening into my project.

What it does

GreenGuide is and informational tool and directory that teaches users not only about how planting can combat climate change, but all about what are the native plants in their state. Ideally they will receive growing tips, where they can purchase the trees, how long they take to grow, etc.

How we built it

I started off by making a wireframe on Figma so I could have an idea of what I wanted it to look like. I then coded the website in HTML5 and CSS3 based on the wireframe I originally made.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge I ran into was definitely the CSS. I've gotten more comfortable with CSS lately but problems still to come up from time to time and they can be a little time consuming when trying to solve them.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm very proud of managing to have a sleek, modern, interface in a matter of two days. Even though it is incomplete, I have come a long way so far in my HTML/CSS journey.

What we learned

I learned about more efficient CSS practices.

What's next for GreenGuide

I definitely want to continue working on this project in the future. Adding a log in feature, more information, completing the directory, etc. Aside from features, making it more accessible for those with disabilities and more responsive for the web. I think the sky is not the limit on what this website could become.

Disclosure: I am a rising junior in college.
