Inspiration
The GreenGuard project was born from a vision to seamlessly integrate smart technology with the care of indoor plants. Inspired to create a system that could intuitively adapt to the environmental needs of greenery, we set out to automate plant care and make it accessible for everyone.
What it does
GreenGuard is an automated plant care system that monitors essential variables for plant health and waters plants autonomously. It features an LCD & Web Monitoring interface for on-screen data display and remote access, as well as a Low Water Alert for timely water replenishment.
How we built it
We embarked on building GreenGuard by selecting suitable sensors and actuators for monitoring and watering plants. The system was designed to be user-friendly, with a focus on enabling remote interaction through both an LCD display and a web interface. A significant development step was integrating the IoT platform Blynk, which proved to be more aligned with our functional requirements than our initial choice of Node-red.
Challenges we ran into
We faced unexpected delays in material delivery, necessitating task rescheduling. Adapting to these changes was a challenge, especially when it came to maintaining our development schedule. The platform shift from Node-red to Blynk also posed a developmental challenge but was a necessary step to meet our project goals.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the hurdles, we are proud to have achieved all of our project goals. Successfully migrating to Blynk for our IoT needs and meeting our functional requirements were significant accomplishments. Our ability to adapt to changing circumstances and still deliver a functional product was a testament to our team's resilience.
What we learned
This project has been a profound learning experience in the realms of IoT, user interface design, and power management. We learned the importance of choosing the right tools and the ability to adapt to unforeseen challenges. Additionally, we gained insights into sustainable design and its importance in today's world.
What's next for GreenGuard
We look to the future with a plan to enhance GreenGuard further. Our roadmap includes upgrading the user interface to allow for more personalized soil moisture control and developing a bespoke power management module. These improvements are aimed at reducing reliance on external power sources, thereby increasing the system's sustainability and adaptability.
