Many people don't realize that the very groceries we buy every week impact both our natural environment and, directly, the lives of the people who work to produce those products. While it is easy to make a difference by making an effort to buy sustainably and ethically sourced products, many don't want to spend any time on it whatsoever.

This is where GreenGrocer comes in. GreenGrocer allows the user to scan any item while at the grocery store and quickly and easily view information about its sustainability and the working conditions employees of the brand face. By eliminating several minutes of manual research, the app provides a painless way for busy shoppers to make a difference every day.

GreenGrocer's main target audience is young adults, who tend to desire to be more environmentally conscious, but often find themselves crunched for time learning to manage the life events that come with their newfound independence. I came up with the idea for the app while spitting out a particularly bitter mouthful of extra-dark chocolate, when I happened to notice the Fair Trade sticker on the box. My curiosity led to research, and eventually, to my discovery of a problem that I wanted to solve.
