Inspiration
We're not always aware of how the products we buy are sourced, or how their sourcing impacts our Earth. In distinguishing environmentally integrable products in the vast online market, GreenGrade is here to make all of us sustainable consumers with a simple implementation using Google Chrome extensions.
What it does
GreenGrade evaluates a product webpage and generates a grade (A-F) based off how sustainable and eco-friendly the product is. It lists good or bad ingredients/materials used in the product and explains why. In addition, GreenGrade provides information about the company's eco-friendly (or not-so-friendly) reputation, along with alternative options for the product.
How we built it
- Core Functionality Development: Creating the main functionality using JavaScript for webpage text scanning and AI interaction.
- UI/UX Design: Focused on a clean and user-friendly interface design with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Testing and Iteration: Conducted testing and refinements for reliability and accuracy.
Challenges we ran into
- Connecting our Chrome extension with OpenAI
- Connecting FrontEnd with BackEnd
- Figuring out how to implement a local server
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- AI Model Accuracy
- Making GreenGrade functional and working
What we learned
- Tech Proficiency: Improved our proficiency in JavaScript and Chrome extension development.
- AI Insights: Explored AI, particularly in natural language processing to evaluate environmental friendliness.
- User Interface Design: Learned the importance of UI/UX design for an effective user experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
