Inspiration
We were inspired by the growing interest in sustainable living and noticed that, while many people want to reduce their carbon footprint and save money, navigating the world of green incentives like solar rebates, EV credits, and energy-saving programs can feel overwhelming. Our goal with EcoFind was to create a simple, accessible tool that makes finding and prioritizing eco-friendly incentives easy. By giving people a clear and personalized way to explore their options, we hope to make a positive impact for both the planet and their wallets.
What It Does
EcoFind is a web app that helps users find green incentives tailored to their location and needs. After entering a location, users can search through a list of eco-friendly incentives, like solar rebates or energy efficiency credits, and get key info on each one: estimated cost savings, environmental impact, and eligibility. EcoFind takes the guesswork out of going green, giving people an easy way to explore sustainable choices that align with their goals.
How We Built It
We built EcoFind using Svelte, which allowed us to create a fast, user-friendly interface. The core of the site is the Incentive Explorer, where users can filter and search incentives based on their interests. We stored incentive data in CSV format.
Challenges We Ran Into
One big challenge was organizing the data to make searching and filtering easy for users. We had to carefully design the system to keep it intuitive and avoid overwhelming people with too much information. Another challenge was deciding what to focus on given our time constraints; there were many features we wanted to add, but we focused on core functionalities to make EcoFind as effective and streamlined as possible.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
We’re really proud of how EcoFind turned out overall. The Incentive Explorer makes it simple for users to find relevant incentives quickly, and the addition of visual element that helps people understand their potential impact.
What We Learned
Building EcoFind gave us a deeper understanding of green incentives, and we learned a lot about making user-focused tools with Svelte. Structuring data effectively, designing a clean interface, and using visual elements to make complex data more accessible were all valuable lessons for us.
What's Next for EcoFind
Looking ahead, we want to expand the incentive database to cover more locations and incentive types. One feature we’re excited to explore is a personalized roadmap to help users prioritize their best incentives based on their specific needs and goals. We’d also like to add more calculators and profile options to make EcoFind a truly comprehensive tool for anyone interested in going green.
