Inspiration
Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and corporations play a significant role in addressing this global challenge. Many companies are setting ambitious sustainability goals, but struggle to engage their employees in meaningful ways. GreenFlix was born out of the realization that if a company with 100,000 employees could make small lifestyle changes, the collective impact would be equivalent to removing thousands of cars from the road every year.
What it does
GreenFlix is a sustainability engagement platform specifically designed for corporate employees. Unlike generic carbon footprint trackers, GreenFlix analyzes employees' daily habits—such as commuting, business travel, food choices, and office-related decisions—and provides personalized action plans. The platform offers realistic, practical challenges tailored to each employee's lifestyle. For example:
For an employee who drives alone to work: "Try carpooling once this week to cut 5 kg CO₂ and earn 50 Green Points!"
For frequent business travelers: "Consider switching to a virtual meeting for short-haul trips to save 50 kg CO₂ and earn a corporate sustainability badge!"
GreenFlix incorporates gamification and corporate rewards to keep employees engaged. Users can earn Green Points and Streak Rewards for completing sustainability challenges. These points can be exchanged for real corporate perks, such as wellness benefits, gift cards or vouchers.
How we built it
The GreenFlix platform was developed as a 24-hour hackathon MVP (Minimum Viable Product). The team focused on creating a working prototype that includes:
Corporate carbon footprint tracker Personalized action plan generator Green Points rewards system Leaderboard for employee engagement
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we ran into were setting up three.js since we had never heard about it, it was really exciting to use 3D animations embedded into the website
What we learned
Time Management, collaborative work, team effort.
What's next for GreenFlix
GreenFlix has the potential to transform how companies engage employees in sustainability. By making small lifestyle changes across a large workforce, the total impact could be significant. The platform makes it easy for employees to participate, rewarding to stay engaged, and measurable for companies to track real results. In the future, the team plans to develop a more advanced system that learns from user behavior to provide smarter suggestions. This could involve integrating machine learning algorithms to analyze patterns in employee behavior and offer increasingly personalized and effective sustainability challenges.
