Inspiration
I noticed that local green initiatives — like tree planting drives, school recycling programs, and solar installation projects — often lack transparency. People want to participate and contribute, but they don’t know if their votes or donations actually make an impact. I wanted to build a platform that empowers communities and ensures accountability.
What it does
GreenDAO is a community governance platform where users can vote for sustainability projects. Each vote is tracked transparently, and the results are publicly visible. Eventually, I plan to integrate blockchain and wallet support to securely record every vote and contribution.
How we built it
I used React.js for the frontend, Tailwind CSS for styling, and React Router for navigation. Project voting is managed through state, and the Transparency page dynamically displays the latest votes. I focused on creating a clean, intuitive interface that encourages participation.
Challenges we ran into
Simulating blockchain functionality before actual wallet integration. Ensuring state updates in Projects immediately reflect in Transparency.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A fully interactive mock voting system. A visually appealing, user-friendly interface. A clear roadmap for blockchain integration and future expansion.
What we learned
How to manage shared state across multiple pages in React. The importance of user experience in civic tech applications. Basics of integrating blockchain concepts into frontend prototypes. How to work independently and prototype quickly under time constraints.
What's next for GreenDAO : A Decentralized Autonomous Organization
Blockchain integration: Connect MetaMask to record votes on-chain. Funding module: Enable citizens to contribute directly to projects. Impact analytics: Track environmental outcomes and community engagement. Scalability: Expand the platform to include more projects and communities globally.
