Inspiration
Multiple recent events makes the problem of global warming an absolute must for everyone to solve and be empowered, connected and participate to do so. Governments around the world does provide mechanism to offset environmental harm by means of carbon credits. This is essentially a supply chain and dysfunctional marketplace problem. Blockchain brings together different entities including governments, corporations, regulations, people on one single platform. Creating next layer of automation through IoT and incentives through blockchain based rules and smart contracts enables solutions for this problem.
What it does
It's a multifaceted project and rather ambitious in scope and impact. It allows various participants to be awarded or restricted in context of environment friendly behaviour. Core functions are
A government body through public discourse, social media and if possible through direct democracy decides upon a baseline environment harm the country is willing to tolerate in a year. They procure and issue said number of carbon credits to participating business areas in the begining
Using IoT, sales and manufacturing data, environment impact is monitored by multiple entities (corporations, people, cars). Using machine learning a periodic baseline is calculated. Entities above the baseline receive less credits and entities below are awarded more
All entities can buy sell credits in between them without knowing any other information about them
Regulator issues endorsement based on compliance
Entities can buy insurance to offset costs. Insurance companies can check endorsement scores on the blockchain and adjust premiums
How we built it
Hyperledger and Sawtooth are perfect solutions for this project. We are at fairly early stage and used Hyperledger Composer, REST APIs and HTML/JS frontend for our prototyping

Hyperledger is new to us. We are still learning and solving those issues. We are still not clear on the scope and limitations
Accomplishments that we're proud of
To be able to discuss this problem and identify various actors, their roles and responsibilities. To learn that we can solve this problem through existing technologies and build corresponding, presentation and early prototype for the same.
