Green vs Greed is a fun two-player game that teaches the players about pollution. Players represent either Farmers or The Company. The Farmers need to use responsible and environmentally-friendly farming techniques to help combat pollution, which is being caused by The Company. Players on either side can buy things for either their Farm or The Company in order to earn money and expand.

As a Farmer, the player will come to realize how hard it is to stop pollution. They will also learn defensive techniques to battle pollution. The other player representing The Company will learn about technologies that cause and aid pollution. This will make the player more conscious to the harm these technologies cause in real life.

Inspiration

We wanted to create a project that dealt with a real world problem that we all face. Throughout our lives we have seen companies push the world into further ecological damage. Our game shows players both sides of the same problem to prompt further thought and discussion on this issue.

What We Learned

Before the project, none of us had used Godot before. There was a steep learning curve involved with the engine over the 36 hours. Many of the technologies we used were new to us and difficult to implement. Godot uses its own scripting language, so on top of the project we learned a whole new langauge.

How It's Made

We used Godot and its scripting language to create the functionality of the project. The team got free downloadable sprites from Kenney online. We also attempted to integrate a database with CockroachDB, but were unable to make it work with Godot. Github and its version control was a huge asset in allowing us to work on seperate tasks. It also helped us integrate our tasks together to create the full project.

Challenges

Our team wanted to make an impactful project. We had many ideas that fit into this category and it took quite a bit of debate to pick our final choice. The database software we attempted to integrate was difficult with this game engine. We ended up having to scrap a lot of work we did, which ended up costing us a good chunk of time.
