About the project GreenVerify was created from a simple observation: sustainability-linked lending is growing fast, but the process used to check ESG commitments has not kept up. Compliance and risk teams are still reading hundreds of pages line by line, copying numbers into spreadsheets, and trying to justify decisions under increasing regulatory scrutiny. This gap between ambition and execution inspired a system that can read like an analyst, document like an auditor, and scale like software.

The project was built around a document-first workflow. Long-form sustainability reports are ingested, processed end-to-end, and transformed into structured key performance indicators with page-level evidence. Confidence scores highlight where data is solid and where human review is needed, so experts focus on judgment rather than mechanical extraction. The system then layers domain logic on top: materiality checks by sector, trajectory analysis against past performance, treatment of scope 3 data, and detection of exclusions or boundary shifts that might hide risk.

Building GreenVerify involved several key learning areas. On the technical side, it required understanding how to orchestrate multi-step reasoning over long documents, how to design reliable workflows, and how to present complex ESG information in a way decision-makers can trust at a glance. On the domain side, it meant going deep into sustainability-linked loan principles, European regulatory expectations, and how credit committees actually reason about risk and pricing.

There were significant challenges along the way. One was balancing automation with control: the system had to be fast and scalable, but also transparent enough that a risk officer or regulator could see exactly how a conclusion was reached. Another was designing a user experience that fits existing bank workflows instead of asking teams to change how they work. Ensuring that outputs are explainable, auditable, and consistent across many borrowers was a constant design constraint, shaping both the architecture and the product features.
