Green Stations

Inspiration

We were inspired to create a website geared towards UIC students to locate energy-efficient locations as an initiative to make a significant impact on both the campus community and the environment.

What it does

Our website displays a map that includes various locations of electric vehicle charging stations, Divvy bike stations, solar-charging stations, and recycling centers near the UIC Campus. The map can be filtered for specific stations to be shown and also displays various information of each station such as the address and name of the location.

How we built it

We began by creating a git hub in order to share the files with our group members. We coded this in vs code. We used an extension called live share which allowed us all to work on the code concurrently. We used HTML and CSS in order to create the web design. We used JavaScrpit in order to implement our API which would show us the location of the objects that we were looking for.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into were how to make the background a video, since we originally had a picture and done all the HTML and CSS code for that, the transition to the video was difficult and took a lot of time. We also had issues with the API key that was used to get the data for the stations on the map, and after a while of troubleshooting solutions, we got it to work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of and what we learned

One accomplishment that we're proud of is being able to fully complete this project within the 24-hour constraint of this project. We learned how to make use of APIs within our website and how to work as a team managing our time efficiently throughout this project.

What's next for Green Stations

We want to implement and make our own csv file that we can use and has the coordinates of each of the recycling garbage cans at UIC. We also want to add the nearest Divvy stations in the csv and our own solar charging stations at UIC and EV charging stations in each of the parking garage. We want to map out all the green stations at UIC and be less reliable on the API.
