Inspiration

Each wanted to develop a project and solution that would benefit our communities locally and globally- after reaching out to family and friends about the important topic of climate change we realized that there was a lack of awareness when talking about one’s carbon footprint and what each individual may do to reduce their negative impact on our environment. There has been a realization recently that due to population growth and many other factors we must start protecting our environment now- as it is already becoming too late.

What it does

Green Space is going to help address the lack of education surrounding the specifics of climate change with regard to the everyday person and their lifestyle. We sought to provide a space where individuals may calculate their own personal impact through a carbon footprint calculator.

How we built it

We built our Website using Repl.it as a team collaboratively and used HTML as well as CSS.

Challenges we ran into

As most of the team consisted of beginners there were times in which we needed to address our learning curves and research more about specific topics before addressing obstacles in our design. This was the first Hackathon for 3 members of our team and we all really enjoyed the process and will look forward to those in the future.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of working together to address a real and important problem that our communities locally and globally face and having the ability to help educate and raise awareness surrounding climate change and each individual's carbon footprint.

What we learned

We each learned more about the coding process and the basics of Hackathons as well as how to collaborate in a virtual setting.

What's next for Green Space

Our plans for Green Space in the future are to use our feedback submissions to potentially add to our areas covered on the site, to broaden the topics included.
