Inspiration
Climate tools often overwhelm people with abstract numbers like “tons of CO₂,” which most users don’t understand or act on. We wanted to create something simple, human, and motivating — a way for people to understand their sustainability habits the same way they understand a credit score. GreenScore was inspired by one question: What if sustainability were as easy to track and improve as your credit score?
What it does
GreenScore is a web app that gives users a 0–100 sustainability score based on everyday lifestyle choices such as transportation, energy use, food habits, and waste management. Instead of just showing a score, GreenScore:
- Breaks down where the score comes from
- Highlights which habits have the biggest impact
- Shows how small changes can immediately improve the score The goal is to turn awareness into actionable behavior change.
How we built it
GreenScore was built as a lightweight web application with:
- React / Next.js for the frontend
- Tailwind CSS for a clean, modern UI
- A transparent, rule-based scoring engine The scoring logic is intentionally simple and explainable, focusing on education rather than scientific precision.
Challenges we ran into
I didn't run into any major challenge building this project just minor bugs here and there which i fixed successfully
Accomplishments that i'm proud of
- Creating a sustainability tool that is easy to understand in under a minute
- Designing a scoring system that clearly explains why a score changes
- Building a complete, demo-ready product as a solo project
- Turning sustainability concepts into something interactive and engaging
What i learned
I learned that how information is presented matters as much as the information itself. Users are more likely to care when sustainability feels personal, measurable, and achievable.
I also learned that simple, honest tools can be more impactful than complex systems that users don’t trust or understand.
