Inspiration
Amy, a fourth year Coservation Biology major at UC Davis began to organize trash cleanups in her community and wanted to find a better way to organize volunteers. Our team thought that was a great cause to pursue and began work early.
What it does
The app displays cleanup events in a map-based GUI. The app also allows for building communities and easier communication surrounding these events.
How we built it
Our team made use of django and Google Maps API to facilitate our multi-page mapplication :) .
Challenges we ran into
We began construction with the React framework, but after running into multiple difficulties, decided to switch to django as it was a better fit for our team's experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The design of our app is very aesthetically pleasing. Original images were developed for this purpose.
What we learned
Amy: Being completely new to tech, a lot of the workshops were demystifying. Matt: There is a lot more to learn about React. Manuel: Communicating with people who don't have as much experience. Billy T.: Gained a better understanding of Model Viewer Templates as a result of using django.
