Green Pursuit

Inspiration

The problems that arise with climate change and extreme weather conditions are becoming more prevalent. There are many people who are passionate about tackling against climate change and global warming. However, to make a positive impact on the environment, there is a need to be a way to help people to find jobs and opportunities that relates to sustainability and solving problem that were caused by climate change.

What it does

It is website that focuses on advertising job opportunities, student programmes, work/part time jobs that relates to sustainability and solving issues that were brought in by climate change/extreme weather conditions. Eg: projects/internships that focus on further development of generating renewable energy.

How we built it

We did web scraping to gather all the listing of jobs that relates to sustainability. Then we made a code that filters the jobs by location that was entered into the search engine on the Green Pursuit website.

Challenges we ran into

The problems we had while building this website is that, the process of doing web scraping of sustainability jobs were not always consistent. The web addresses that were used for the web scrapping constantly varies by webpages on LinkedIn. Hence, many adjustments that were made for this part. The user input code had a few minor traceback errors which are fixed during the hackathon.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are happy that we were able to pick up about 220000+ job listings that relating to sustainability, in UK, alone. We were able to filter the jobs by focusing on our first initial location, London. We are very pleased that we were able to designed logo that was dedicated to this website and we are really happy about the general design of Green Pursuit website.

What we learned

We learnt that generally there are plenty of jobs are related to sustainability and there still yet more works that needs to be done to advertise this job opportunities because many these job opportunities goes undiscovered.
