Inspiration
Making a key design that best suits people with arthritis and people in general with poor motor skills.
What it does
Our design uses an innovative handle that allows you to slide your hand through the door and push against the door and the lever to close the door, without closing your hand at all.
How we built it
We built it using inventor, and prototyping multiple different locking mechanisms and handles, until we landed on a design that would be the most optimal.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges attempting to 3d print it, along with the contact solver not cooperating as intended. However, we managed to get a working assembly file.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to make a full locking system that is attached to a door with a custom key. This took a great deal of time and effort but it worked very well in the CAD software
What we learned
We learned a lot about locking mechanisms and how doors work, giving us a deeper understanding into how the most simplest of mechanisms require a great deal of effort and precision to come to fruition. We also tested new concepts that we never did before, like the contact solver and making a key and lock system from scratch.
What's next for Green Propelor
What we accomplished this weekend was simply a prototype, however we are sure that if we put enough time and effort into the project that we could truly make a great innovation towards how we interact with the environment around us.
