Inspiration

Climate change is real, and companies have a big role in reducing carbon emissions. But most workplace sustainability programs feel boring and don’t get people excited. We thought: what if we made it fun? Just like games keep people hooked, we wanted to use points, badges, and challenges to make eco-friendly choices rewarding.

What it does

Green Ops is like a fitness tracker, but for your office’s carbon footprint. Employees can see how much energy they’re saving, complete small daily green tasks, and earn rewards. Teams and departments can compete on leaderboards, making it fun and social. Managers get dashboards and reports to see the company’s overall progress and savings.

How we built it

We created a web app with: Frontend: React (for the user interface and dashboards) Backend: FastAPI (to manage data and user info) Charts: Simple visuals to show energy use and progress Login system: So employees and admins have different views

Challenges we ran into

Making sure the app updated data in real time without slowing down Balancing the “fun game” side with a serious business tool Designing charts and dashboards that are easy to understand Handling lots of different user roles (employees vs. admins)
