Inspiration

The inspiration came from the desire to help the global community understand how menstruation impacts health. I saw many instances in my own community where people were putting themselves at risk of many infections due to a lack of menstrual product access. At the same time, the currently marketed products are immensely harmful to the environment. Based on personal inequity and lack of education surrounding menstruation I wanted to provide a platform where it is easy to access and assess menstrual-related products to conclude what was best for my body. At the same time, I felt motivated to help those who may lack access to menstrual products due to financial issues.

What it does

The website offers customizable products as well as recommendations based on user inputs. The website has many useful community-based features including donation options, a menstrual environmental sustainability calculator, our partners page, and educational/informative blogs. The GUI offers a interactive AI model trained to predicts potential Health Issues related to menopause and menstruation to help people identify if they need immediate healthcare.

How we built it

The platform was built using both back-end and front-end tools. Some tools used to build were Python, CSS, Javascript, HTML, Tkinter, and Wix. Pandas, CSV, and Google Sheets were used for data training and building the AI model deployed through a GUI for the user to interact.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges were difficulty importing tools for the AI model including pandas and Tkinter which ran into Python update issues. It was also difficult to format the interface for the health issue predictor since I was unfamiliar with GUI interface design.

Accomplishments to be proud of

I am proud of designing and developing a working website that helped solve health and sustainability issues to help the menstruating community which focuses on upholding the UN's sustainable development goals. I was proud of styling everything cohesively and implementing the AI model to help females overcome any symptoms they may be feeling much sooner. I am glad that the platforms were creative and all-encompassing different important aspects.

What we learned

  1. I learned that it is very difficult to integrate the back end into the front end.
  2. I also learned that design and ideas were as important as implementing code.
  3. I also understood that user interaction plays the biggest role in a website to help solve a community-based problem

What's next

  1. Feedback Mechanism: Option for users to provide feedback on predicted symptoms accuracy.
  2. Forum/Community Board: Platform for users to discuss menstrual health topics, share experiences, and seek advice.
  3. Notifications: Reminders for upcoming predicted symptoms or important health tips.
