🌱 Inspiration

Children today face a growing disconnect from nature, with nearly 90% lacking essential eco-skills. Traditional education often fails to make sustainability learning fun or interactive. At the same time, general-purpose AI tools like ChatGPT aren’t designed for safe, age-appropriate learning. This inspired us to create Green Mentor Owly — a friendly, AI-powered sustainability mentor that teaches kids to “Learn Green. Play Green. Live Green.”

Green Mentor Owly helps children and young learners build eco-friendly habits through interactive learning.

💬 Conversational AI: Kids can ask questions like “How can I save electricity?” and get fun, age-appropriate answers.

🧠 Interactive Quizzes: AI-generated quizzes reinforce learning.

🎯 Eco Challenges: Real-world tasks with digital rewards encourage eco-action.

🛡️ Safe & Simple UI: Designed for children with a friendly owl mascot, bright visuals, and easy navigation.

🛠️ How we built it

We developed the project using FastAPI and Python for the backend, integrated with GPT-5 API for context-aware, natural conversations. The frontend was built with React and hosted on Vercel, while the backend runs on Railway. The design emphasizes eco-green, blue, and orange tones, featuring animated badge icons and a playful owl mascot to make learning engaging and safe.

Introducing multilingual support to reach more children globally.
