Inspiration Living in Hyderabad, the Kirana store isn't just a place to buy groceries; it's the heart of our community. I was inspired by the hard-working owners of these essential local shops and a desire to include them in the sustainability conversation. While large corporations have teams dedicated to going green, our local shopkeepers are often left behind, facing rising electricity costs and waste management challenges alone. I wanted to create a simple, free, and accessible tool that could empower them to become more sustainable, helping both their business and our shared environment.
What it does Green Kirana AI acts as a free, on-demand sustainability consultant for local Kirana store owners. It's a simple, two-step process:
The owner fills out a 5-question form on their phone or computer, providing basic details about their shop's energy and waste habits.
Our AI agent instantly analyzes this information and generates a beautiful, personalized, one-page report with three easy-to-understand, low-cost tips to help them save money and reduce their environmental footprint.
The solution requires zero technical skills and provides immediate, actionable advice.
How we built it This project was built in the true "rapid prototyping" spirit of the Vibe Coding Hackathon, using a 100% no-code/low-code approach.
The User-Facing Form: We used the simple and intuitive form builder Tally.so to create the questionnaire for the shop owners.
The AI "Brain": We engineered a sophisticated prompt for a Large Language Model to act as our expert consultant. It takes the raw data from the form and transforms it into a personalized, encouraging report.
The Professional Output: We used Canva to design a clean, professional PDF report template that makes the AI's advice easy to read and act upon.
The Pitch Deck: The entire 9-slide presentation was also designed and built in Canva.
This end-to-end solution was ideated and built in just a few hours, proving the power and speed of modern AI and no-code tools.
Challenges we ran into The biggest challenge was the clock. Going from a simple idea to a full, polished submission in a single evening was an intense sprint that required immense focus.
We also ran into frustrating technical hurdles with design formatting. What seemed simple—like getting text to align properly in Canva—took significant time to troubleshoot. At one point, we had to completely abandon our initial report design and pivot to a new, simpler strategy to avoid getting stuck. It was a powerful reminder that even in a "no-code" world, the details matter and persistence is key.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We are incredibly proud of building a complete, functional "proof-of-concept" from scratch in just a few hours. We didn't just have an idea; we built the user interface, the AI logic, the final output, and a full presentation deck.
Most of all, we're proud that we didn't give up when we hit frustrating roadblocks. We found a new way forward, stayed focused on the mission, and completed a project that we believe can create real, positive change in our community.
What we learned The biggest lesson from this hackathon was that you don't need to be a coder to build impactful technology. The power of no-code platforms and generative AI is truly democratizing innovation, allowing anyone with a good idea to build a solution. We also learned the importance of focusing on a simple, well-defined problem. By targeting a specific, local issue, we were able to create a much more meaningful and feasible project.
What's next for Green Kirana AI The immediate next step is to refine the AI prompts to provide even more detailed and culturally relevant tips for shopkeepers in Hyderabad. Our long-term vision is to partner with organizations like the Sustainable Living Lab to offer this as a free tool to shops across the city. From there, we hope to expand the model to help other types of small, local businesses (like restaurants and tailors) become leaders in urban sustainability.
