Inspirati# My Green Guide Project Story
By Raji Habeebat Opeyemi (also known as harbe54)
Inspiration
Growing up in an environment surrounded by numerous industries, I witnessed firsthand the harmful effects of pollution. The air we breathed was often thick and unhealthy. However, I noticed a remarkable transformation when a group purchased a piece of land nearby and planted large, lush trees. The area gradually became a haven—clean air, ocean breeze, and a cool spot where people gathered to eat, relax, and connect. That small forest not only improved the air quality but also brought the community together and provided fresh, edible plants.
It made me realize: What if we all made small, consistent efforts to green our surroundings? What if we planted trees, even small ones like miracle leaf, around our homes each year? That thought sparked the idea behind Green Guide—a digital solution to promote sustainability and encourage everyday eco-actions.
What I Learned
Through this project, I learned:
- How to connect sustainability goals with real-world tech.
- The power of AWS generative AI in crafting smart, personalized experiences.
- The value of integrating next-gen connectivity (like 5G and IoT) to make real-time eco-feedback possible.
- How software can inspire real-life environmental change.
How I Built It
I built Green Guide using:
- Visual Studio Code as my development environment.
- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend design.
- React for a dynamic and responsive user interface.
- Python for backend logic and handling eco-advice algorithms.
- APIs for gathering environmental data, sustainability tips, and AI-driven recommendations.
- AWS services, including generative AI tools, to personalize user experiences and suggest sustainable habits.
- Potential IoT/edge integration (e.g., with sensors or smart home tools) to provide live feedback on energy usage and more.
Challenges I Faced
- Understanding how to integrate AWS generative AI into a sustainability-focused app.
- Learning how to connect AI insights with real-time data through 5G or edge devices.
- Balancing good UI/UX design with functional sustainability tools.
- Managing time and debugging across multiple technologies (especially Python and React integration).
Green Guide is more than an app—it's a call to action. To live greener, to plant more, and to empower others through technology.on
