Inspiration
We underestimate the impact our habits make on the environment. From transportation to shopping habits, most people are unaware of their impact. This app was created to give people the knowledge and the tools to understand and reduce their carbon footprints. We want to empower people to make more sustainable choices!
What it does
Green Climate Hero tracks personal carbon emissions by analyzing user behavior such as transportation, energy consumption, and purchasing habits. It provides an easy-to-read summary of your carbon footprint and offers actionable tips on reducing your emissions. The app also includes comparisons to local and global averages, so users can see how their efforts contribute to the fight against climate change.
How we built it
We essentially used the platform Glitch which is a website that allows us to collaborate on any files. We used HTML to make the website and create a survey using radio buttons. JavaScript to essentially code uses the user input to output tailored responses. We also used chart.js which is a JavaScript library to create charts.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges using JavaScript because we had to use resources like W3 schools to assist us since we were not familiar with it. Through W3 schools we learned how to use the javascript library called chart.js to create the chart and also format it to our liking.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to bring awareness to environmental issues. Many people are aware of how our environment has been neglected, but we make the knowledge to change that accessible with our app.
What we learned
We learned how to use JavaScript to make forms and take input from the user. We also learned how to make a more user-friendly interface. We also learned how to create charts.
What's next for Green Climate Hero
In the future, we will add more advanced features. We would add weekly newsletters. Lastly, create a social network through following and friends.
