Inspiration

I've spent years creating experiences in Horizon Worlds, and one thing I've consistently seen is that players enjoy games that reward exploration, progression, and discovery. I wanted to create a survival experience that felt different from traditional resource management games. The idea started with a simple question: what if gravity itself became part of the gameplay? From that concept, the world of Vespera was born—a fractured planet filled with floating islands, ancient technology, and mysteries waiting to be uncovered.

What it does

Gravity Rift is a mobile-first Survival & Resource Management game set on the unstable world of Vespera. Players take the role of a stranded explorer who must gather resources, build shelters, manage survival systems, and uncover the secrets of the lost Gravari civilization. As players progress, they unlock powerful Gravity Cores that grant new abilities and allow them to reach previously inaccessible areas. The ultimate goal is to master gravity, restore stability to Vespera, and find a way home.

How we built it

Gravity Rift was developed through a complete game design process that included a Game Design Document, Player Journey Map, Visual Concept Package, and Production Plan. The project was designed around a core gameplay loop of exploration, resource gathering, base progression, and Gravity Core upgrades. Every system, region, and visual element was planned to support the themes of discovery, progression, and player-driven exploration. The visual identity, world design, progression systems, and mobile-focused interface were all created to work together as a cohesive experience.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was balancing ambition with practicality. Early versions of the concept included more regions, additional Gravity Cores, multiplayer features, and expanded wildlife systems. While those ideas were exciting, I quickly realized that creating a successful game starts with building a strong core experience. The challenge became identifying which features were essential to the gameplay loop and which ideas could be saved for future development.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of the accomplishments I'm most proud of is creating a complete vision for Gravity Rift that feels both unique and achievable. The Gravity Core system gives the game a distinct identity, while the world of Vespera provides a strong foundation for exploration and progression. I'm also proud of creating a clear player journey, a cohesive visual style, and a realistic production plan that demonstrates how the project could actually be built rather than remaining just an idea.

What we learned

This project reinforced the importance of scope, planning, and player-focused design. I learned that great game concepts are not just about having interesting mechanics but about creating systems that work together to support a fun and rewarding player experience. I also gained a greater appreciation for the importance of progression, retention, visual identity, and realistic development planning.

What's next for Gravity Rift

The next step for Gravity Rift would be building and testing the MVP. The initial version would focus on the Crash Site Basin region, survival systems, resource gathering, base progression, and the Float Core. Once the core gameplay loop is validated, future development could expand the world with additional Gravity Cores, new regions, advanced wildlife, cooperative exploration, and deeper Gravari lore. The long-term vision is to create a rich exploration experience where players continually discover new ways to master gravity and uncover the secrets of Vespera.
